Day 1: Meet your guide in San Jose at 9am. It’s just a short two hour transfer to Playa Hermosa, where you can check in to your hotel right on the beach. You have the rest of the day to settle in, relax, and catch some waves at this great spot, before grabbing a sunset beer and dinner at one of Hermosa’s excellent beachfront bars and restaurants.
Day 2: You can have a surf session in Hermosa, Jaco or one of the other lesser known breaks we can take you to. There are lots of great activities for those non surfing hours. We will have dinner in lively Jaco as a group, or you can chill out in Hermosa if you prefer.
Day 3: Get up for a last dawn surf in Hermosa before we head off. Just a short hour and a half south to Dominical where you will have the day to explore the village, surf and relax in your special secluded hotel located in tropical gardens, and try some of the great international restaurants and bars here.
Day 4: Early start for our transfer to Matapalo in the deep south of Costa Rica. The drive offers some incredible views as we climb into the hills that divide the Osa peninsular from the mainland. Our hotel is located just seconds from a secluded beach and a few minutes walk from the surf. Nancy and Evie are on hand to introduce you to the secrets of this amazing region. From this point in the trip, due to the remoteness of the area, the accommodations are all-inclusive and include three meals a day.

Day 5: A day to surf the Matapalo rights and explore the cool jungle backdrops. You can see white faced monkeys, hummingbirds and macaws just walking around the hotel grounds. The hotel also has a pool and bar when you need a little more civilization, and offers loads of other activities, including its own brand new yoga deck set above the jungle with gorgeous ocean views.
Day 6: One of your guides will set off early with your luggage, leaving you free to relax before a short taxi ride and scenic boat trip from Puerto Jimenez across to Golfito, back on the mainland. We all meet up again here and travel the last hour together to Pavones, where we arrive in time for an afternoon surf session. The remote village provides a backdrop for some amazingly photogenic left point breaks, the most famous of which starts at the rivermouth and wraps around into the next bay, but this area is packed with great surf. Our all-inclusive hotel here offers tons of other activities including 14 acres of carefully managed nature trails.
Day 7: A day to do exactly as you please. World class surfing or a multitude of other activities on your doorstep. For our final night we head up the hills behind Pavones to a spectacular restaurant for sunset cocktails followed by a buffet meal to celebrate the end of an epic trip!
Day 8: A short hour transfer brings us back up the coast to Golfito where you will take a scenic 40 minute flight back to San Jose.
Tortuga del Mar (2 nights)
This hotel blends the original beauty of a tropical lodge with an exquisite setting right on the pristine black sand beach. Set in a pretty garden with beachfront pool, shaded rancho and lounging areas, you'll stay right at the beach and steps from Hermosa's world class surf. All the spacious rooms have balcony access with ocean view or private terraces on the ground floor. All rooms are furnished in a tropical-modern style and have A/C, wireless internet access, in-room safe, refrigerator, private bath with hot water and an outside lounging area.
Villas Rio Mar (1 night) This unique hotel was one of the first to receive a Sustainable Tourism Certificate (CST) and is nestled in 7 acres, 3 of them virgin rainforest with a beautiful trail. Each apartment is individually located in the grounds and offer A/C, ceiling fan, private bathroom and private garden view terrace with living area and mini fridge. The hotel has a large swimming pool, whirlpool, spa, tennis court, free internet access, and restaurant. Breakfast is included.
Encanta La Vida (2 nights) The first and best reputed hotel in the area. Set in magnificent jungle renowned for its incredible biodiversity, this special lodge offers flexible and private accommodation around a central dining area for family style meals as well as a pool, bar, and star gazing deck. Rustic in style, each room offers fans and private bathroom with hot water as well as terraces or patios. All meals are included, and are lavishly prepared in the renowned restaurant.
La Ponderosa (2 nights) La Ponderosa is the only beachfront resort in the area. You can hear the ocean's waves from your bed. You are also just footsteps from a great beach for swimming or just relaxing in one of the beach huts, and minutes from world class surfing. The hotel is set in 14 acres of preserved jungle, with carefully maintained trails. All rooms have private bathrooms, Cable TV, DVD, air conditioning, fans, private porches or balconies and all beds are fitted with orthopedic mattresses. There is a communal recreation room with TV, DVD with many surf movies, fuzbol and ping pong tables, and a wide selection of books and magazines. This hotel is all inclusive with no set meal times, eat great home cooking when you want, with or without the group.
