Pavones, Costa Rica Road Trip, Surf, Eat, Sleep, Surf. Perfect

We had heard reports that Pavones, the second longest left in the world, had been going off over the last week, and it didn't take more than a couple of phone calls to get a group together to head down for a 3 day trip, to catch the best of the southerly swell.  Representing Florida we had Earl and Brandon, myself (Nancy), and the two Gabriels both from Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica.  With the newly paved coastal highway it was a pretty easy journey, we even had time to stop and meet the local Pizote crew in Dominical!   We scored great waves over the next few days, and, unusually for Pavones, there was hardly anyone around.. one morning we pretty much had the lineup to ourselves.  Brandon got the wave of the weekend with a stand up barrel on the inside rivermouth section.  Everyone was pretty stoked on their waves though, Pavones was definitely showing us its best side.  We checked a couple of other local surf spots that Evie and I had discovered on our last trips, and enjoyed some great hilltop views where we found freshly cut sugercane to eat! Perfect post surf energiser.  As it is rainy season here in Costa Rica, all the river levels are high and we stopped at a bridge to watch kids jumping into the (pretty fast flowing) river below.   After some hesitation, and lots of looking over the edge we all jumped (only to discover it was a bit shallower than it looked!)

After 3 days, some 11 hours of surfing, and our own bodyweight in rice and beans consumed we headed home, tired but definitely happy.  Having been to Pavones many times, this trip was one of the best, for uncrowded waves and great company.. thanks guys!
